The wine "Txakoli" from the previous article, which I had the pleasure to taste in Getaria, was produced by a bodega with a typically Basque name "Txomin" [chomin]. The Basque dictionary of Mixelena interprets this word as a name similar to the Spanish "Domingo" and a derivative from it.
This is not so. The direction of borrowing was the opposite, and it is easy to prove. The key to the solution is the Svan word ჭომინ [chomin] meaning "barley" (Lushnu Anban). "Domingo", as you know, is "Sunday". And Sunday is a day off, free of work, on which alcoholic beverages were allowed.
Barley is a symbol of beer. So, people drank chomin-barley on the last day of week, which eventually received the name of the drink - "Domingo". The "go"-suffix is Basque genitive.
It was exactly this way, not the other way around.
