The name of both the Ukrainian and Russian rivers can be interpreted as a Kartvelian toponym ending in "Sa-", if we remember that "mari" in Georgian is "tomb". Thus, "Samare" can be interpreted as "land of tombs". It is indeed both the Ukrainian Samara (in ancient times known as "Samara", which adds to the kartvelianness of the toponym), flowing in places of high concentration of Scythian burial grounds, and the Russian one.
Although, it can also be the Megrelian word "mara" meaning "valley, field".
