SAMARATE

Not far from Milan is the town of Samarate, which is clearly a Kartvelian toponymic construction. The root here is probably the Georgian word "amarta" - "jasper", turning the entire toponym "Samarate" into "place of jasper". It is impossible to vouch for the fact of jasper mining in Samarate, but the whole of Lombardy, like the whole of Northern Italy, can boast of more than a few deposits of this mineral.

But the second interpretation might be more reliable. It's the Megrelian "mara" for "valley, field". In this case "Samarate" contains two toponymic suffixes, which is not a problem at all, since it's exactly the case of the Georgian "Saprangeti" (France) and "Saberdzneti" (Greece).
