QUERQUETULANI

 Pliny places a tribe with this name in Lazio. The word-formation chain looks like this:

Querquetulani [kerketulani], adjective) <– Querquetuli [kerketuli], adjective) <– Querqueti [Kerketi], toponym) <– querqui [kerki], root)

This is not the first time that European toponyms show the Georgian root “kerki” (ქერქი), which is translated from Kartvelian as “bark”. Hence “Kerketulani” – “residents of the country of bark”. Bark was a valuable product in ancient times, from which various products were made, from birch bark for writing to tar. Certain countries, apparently, specialized in its supply.
