KERKYRA

The island of Corfu is known in Greece as Kerkyra, which is written with an upsilon - Κέρκυρα, implying the [u]-sound. The Georgian adjective suffix "-ur" is evident, combined with the root "kerki" (ქერქი), which is often found in world toponyms, and is translated from Kartvelian as "bark". "Kerkuri" would literally mean "barky" in Georgian.
