Similarly to the large number of similar toponyms on Ptolemy's map, we have a right to interpret "Occitania" as derived from the toponym "Oxeti", which means "oxi country". There are many possible readings of the original noun. A very likely connection with the Italian "oschi" (a metathesis), as well as with the Basque autoethnonym "euski".
Also throw in the Laz ოსქუ [osku] - "to lay eggs", as well as the Megrelian ოსქი [oski] - "pigsty". The latter seems to be it, as Jambon de Lacaune and Jambon de Bigorre are among the best cured hams in the country.
