LINTVARIVKA

This amazing Svan toponym is located where it does not seem to belong: in the Sumy region of Ukraine. The fact that the toponym is Svan is proved by the root "lintv" (ლინტვ), which means "winter" in the Svan language. From the Ukrainian point of view, the root "lintv" cannot be interpreted in any way. Meanwhile the Dahl's dictionary contains an amazing word "lintvar" meaning "lamb of late (winter) litter", but this example only confirms the meaning of the root as "winter". Thus, the name of the village is either associated with lambs of late litter, or is a Svan construction "lintvar", meaning "where it is winter". In other words, a place where it is cold.
