COLLI ALBANI

The Colli Albani massif is a good example of the fact that one should not associate toponyms containing the root "alb-" with the color white.

The hills (not even mountains) of no more than 950 meters high, sacred to the ancient Latins, did not give any reason to call themselves "white" even in winter (everything around was white in winter). The root of this toponym has a different meaning. This is a combination of the article "A" with the root "l(u)b", from which the vowel is dropped. This is explained in more details in the article about "Albania".
