The double "-nn-" in the root of a word should always arouse the special attention of kartvelologists, since it signals the possible presence of the Old Kartvelian plural suffix "-n".
The famous city of Cannes, the name of which is interpreted in all languages as a plural, belongs to the commune of Le Cannet. Considering the obvious Kartvelian toponymic suffix in its name, we have the right to interpret "Kanneti" as "the land of kanni". In turn, "kanni", if you look at it from the Kartvelian point of view, is the plural of "kani". And "kani" (ქანი) in Georgian means "quarry", while in Le Cannet des Maures there is precisely a bauxite quarry.- Home
