Are there many poplars in the Carpathians? There must be quite a few. For example, Acer pseudoplatanus, growing on Mount Yavirnik. Or the aspen poplar.
What does this mean? It refers to the well-known Ukrainian toponym Verkhovyna. In Georgian, "verkhvi (or verkhi)" means poplar or aspen. The "-ou" and "-in" are Kartvelian suffixes too.
