TARANA

The Ptolemy's map of Crimea (2nd century AD) tells of disappeared cities that are related not only to the history of Crimea and Ukraine, but also to Georgia. Thus, the city of Tarana, located not far from the Azov coast of the peninsula, is present as a root in the Georgian surname Taranashvili. The source should be the Megrelian word ტარანი (Kobalia) with a number of meanings: "(fish)-scaled", "quite fine", "black-winged".
