Since the ancient sources mention the old name of today's Turkish Sivas in two versions - Sebaste and Sabaste (J.-B. Bourguignon), we have the right to assume that the second version is correct, since it is "Sabaste" that represents a Kartvelian toponymic structure with a distinguishable root:
Sa + bast + e
"Sabaste" is translated as "place of the Bastis". The root "bast-" is present in the name of the Iberian tribes of Bastetani and Bastuli in Spain. In addition, this same root can be seen in the Corsican "Bastia", in the Albanian "Bastar", in the name of the mysterious tribe "Bastarni" in ancient Ukraine. Its meaning remains a mystery for now.
