The word "Perpignan" can and should be interpreted as a Kartvelian adjective "perpiniani", derived from a certain root "perp(in)-". It is present in in Kartvelian dictionaries in the words "perpli" (ფერფლი, ashes, "ashes"), "perpuri" (ფერფური, "complexion") and "perpeta" (ფერფეტა, "fat man"). The value has not yet been established, but it is not that much important, as the morphological construction is impeccably Kartvelian.
The "-iani" suffix contains the first "i" for a reason. And the reason is purely Kartvelian. It the Kartvelian nominative case formant. If not for it, the suffix would have been just "-an", as it is in the Indo-European family (or in the Georgian words that have the nominative form ending in "-a").
