In the name of the Roman province, the second word is also clearly of Kartvelian origin. The adjective contains the toponym "Tingeti" ("country of the tingi"), which may have the same root as the Georgian word "ტინგიცა" [tingitsa], meaning "frivolous", or the Megrelian word "თინგალი" [tingali], meaning "long-necked" or "arrogant".
