In the Democratic Republic of Congo, there lives a tribe called Luba, that speaks the Luba-Kasai and Luba-Katanga languages.
The story about this tribe within the framework of the project "Between Two Iberias" will not seem surprising if you know that a whole group of Congolese towns and villages are stunningly present in real-life Georgian surnames:
Lomami - Lomamidze, Kasai - Kasaidze, Kangela - Kangeladze, Kamina -
Kaminashvili, Lulua - Luluashvili, Demba - Dembashvili, Pangi - Pangishvili,
Moba - Mobadze, Ituri - Ituridze, Bumba - Bumbadze
This is surprising only at first glance. First, all of Africa was previously called "Libya". Second, the Niger-Congo language macrofamily has always been in direct contact with the Nilo-Saharan group, of which Ancient Egypt and Ancient Nubia with their plethora of kartvelisms are a part. So, borrowings were simply unavoidable.
