KRIVICI

One of the East Slavic tribes, the Krivici (Primary Chronicle), inhabited the Smolensk area during the emergence of Kievan Rus. Latvians and Letgolians call Russians with this word - "krievi" and "krīvi", respectively - to this day. The root of the name was unexpectedly found in the dictionary of the Georgian language, where "krivi" (კრივი) means "fist fight". The Russian tradition of fist fights on holidays (or otherwise) is known throughout the world.
