The Spanish verb "comer" (to eat) comes from the Latin "comedere" - "to eat together", where the root is the Latin "edere" - "to eat". It does not seem to have an etymology.
Can "edeba" be the source for "edere" (in the sense of "to eat")? Maybe, if we take into account one of the meanings of "edeba", namely, "to fill smth. by oneself". If the process of eating is perceived in exactly this way, then "edere", "comer", and "eat" are all "space filling".
