The name of the municipality in the Basque Alava is perfectly interpreted from the Kartvelian point of view as "Berneti" - "the land of the Berni", where "berni" is the old Georgian plural of "beri", a root that also appears in the name of the Albanian Berat and more. The meaning of the root "beri" in the Kartvelian languages is fourfold: (1) old; (2) monk; (3) dumb; (4) big stone. It can also be the root of the verb "berva" - "to blow". In addition, in the Basque language the word "bere" is translated into Spanish as "lo suyo", "lo que les corresponde", which perfectly suits the name of the land.
The toponym coincides, firstly, with the name of the Berones tribe, who had the impeccable Megrelian toponym Oluba as their city, and also with the suburb of Pamplona, the town of Beriain.- Home
