ASWAN

Ancient Egyptian Aswan, mentioned on Ptolemy's map as Soene, previously bore the name Swenet, which, first of all, being a Georgia "-eti"-toponym, gives grounds to consider the initial "A-" as an article, and also to correlate the name of the city with Georgian Svaneti. In support of this version there is the ancient city of Photis on the opposite bank of the Nile, which practically coincides with the name of Georgian Poti in Colchis. It is amusing that on the same Ptolemy's map the region beyond the mountain range to the east of Aswan is called Scythica regio. History does not know anything about Scythians in Africa.
