Thanks to the immortal Atlas of Ptolemy, we know about the existence of the Aravacces tribe in Spain in the first century. The morpheme "ara", which is a negative particle "not" in the Georgian language, hints at a clear Kartvelian origin.
Thus, the name "aravacces" can be interpreted as "not vaki". Such a name would make sense if some tribe called "vaki" lived in the neighborhood. The Aravacces indeed had a neighboring powerful tribe named "Vaccaei" [vaki]. In Georgian ვაკე [vake] means "valley". And even more surprisingly, the name of the main city of the Aravacces – Uxama Argelae – is also translated from Georgian – “უხამა არგელი” [ukhama argel] – as “indecent Megrelian”.- Home
