ROMANIA

Someone asks: 'Why is my Romanian dad so dark?'

Romanians are indeed darker than their neighboring Europeans. And today it's time to dismantle the myth that Romanians are named after Romans.

Romans, if our project established, were called "promini" in Old Georgian, revealing the true root of the word, which has no connection to Romulus.

In the word "Romania," however, the root comes from a different Megrelian word—"რუმე" (rume), meaning "dark." Remember it's "Ruminia" in Ukrainian and Russian.

  • This root is also present in "რუმუა" (rumua) and "რუმაფა" (rumapa)."

  • Additionally, there exists a Georgian name "Rumin."

Thus, the name Romania may have originally referred to the dark-complexion people rather than any Roman heritage.
