SUDETES

The name "Sudetes" looks like a typical Kartvelian toponym "Sudeti", translated as "land of suda". This word in the Georgian dictionary means "oats". Thus, the Sudetes become "land of oats". It was for growing oats, according to Pliny, that the Romans and Greeks ridiculed the Germanic tribes that lived in this region.

The word "Sudetes", like the overwhelming majority of all the names considered in this book from the Kartvelian point of view, has no official etymology.
