Since the city of Poltava is located in the very center of concentration of Kartvelian toponyms in Ukraine, and also has the signature "-ava"-ending of Megrelian surnames, and also does not have any reliable etymology of its own, we simply have to see if the word "polti" is present in the Georgian dictionary. Indeed, it is (პოლტი, Chanturia) present in the meaning of "pig's trotter". It would seem difficult to explain, if forget that the neighboring village of Shishaki is translated from Georgian as "sacrificial animal".
