ODESSA

In Greek, the name of the city has the ending "-essos" - "Odessos", - which puts the toponym on a par with other geographical names with this ending, which with a high degree of probability represent the Kartvelian ending "-eti" (the transformation algorithm has already been described).

Thus, in search of the meaning of the name "Odessa", we need to analyze the Kartvelian "Odeti", which coincides, by the way, with the village of Odeti in the Borjomi municipality of Georgia. "Odeti" is interpreted as "land of odi or oda", and "odi", in turn, is translated by Chubinashvili as "false mildew", a disease of cereals.

Meanwhile "oda" is a superfundamental Megrelian word meaning "house on piles".

Also keep in mind that according to the ancient sources the region was inhabited by the Laz people.
