HAZAR

Like other ancient toponyms of Ukraine and Russia - Tartar and Bulgar, - composed with the help of the Svan plural suffix "-ar", the word "Hazar" can be interpreted as "the Haz". And considering that "hazu" (ჰაზუ) in the same Svan language is "yard", "Hazar" turns into "country of yards".

Or, "country of settled people" as opposed to "country of nomads", which is what these regions were in ancient times. So, the word "Hazar", perhaps, does not carry any ethnic load, but merely outlines the area of settled peoples.
