GREECE

The word "Greece" comes from "Graii" [greys], the name of the indigenous population of Epirus ("Gretia" concealing "Greti", a Kartvelian toponym made out of "gre"). The land of Epirus is known as "mountainous and difficult to pass" and is full of impressive canyons like Vikos. While in the Georgian language the root "ღრე" [gre] means precisely "canyon", "gorge".
