GERNIKA

A city in the Basque country with a tragic fate can be compared to the name Lazika. If "Lazika" is "the country of the Laz", then "Gernika" is "the country of the Gerni". The word "gerni" literally translates from Old Kartvelian as "wolves" ("geri" is "wolf" in Megrelian). Accordingly, "Gernika" is "the country of wolves". The suffix "-ika" is found in Kartvelian dictionaries even without Lazika: კორჩაიკა, პარსფაიკა or ალზნიკა, for example.
