What is "Diaokhi"? An ancient region in the south of Georgia, associated with today's Tao in Turkey. We break the word down into "dia+okhi". The second part with "o-" is a typical Megrelian construction "where the root is". That is, "okhi" = "where khi is".
What is "hi" is clear from Kajaia's dictionary, which, referring to Pipia, says that "ხი" is "ხალხი", that is, people. Accordingly, "okhi" = "where the people (live)", that is, "country". What is "dia" is also clear from the same Otari Kajaia's Megrelian dictionary, where this word is translated as "დედა", that is, "mother". Thus, "diaokhi" is "mother-country", that is, "Motherland".
