COL

Kohlrabi is a type of cabbage. In it, the German Kohl is considered to be the root. But we are more interested in the Spanish "col" meaning "cabbage". The word originates, as Spanish etymologists tell us, from the Latin "caulis". We suspected so, because in Georgian (Chanturia), "kavli" (კავლი) means "stem with leaves". In Portuguese, the stem is still "caule", by the way. In some Georgian dialects "v" is pronounced closer to the English "w", it can be perceived as a semi-vowel and can easily turn into the vowel "u" in loanwords.
