CHERKASI

The name of the city in central Ukraine is closely related to the region of the same root in the Caucasus - Circassia, which, in turn, seems to be a derivative of the toponym Kerketi (Strabo tells about the North Caucasian tribes "Kerketi" and "Tarpeti"). "Kerketi" is interpreted as "the country of the Kerki", and "Kerki", in turn, is translated from Georgian as "bark", an extremely important commodity of antiquity, with which, as it turns out, entire regions were associated both in the Caucasus and in Ukraine.
