ВИШНЯ

The word "вишня" [vishnia] is "cherry" in Ukrainian and Russian. In Georgian "cherry is "ქვიშნა [kvishna]. The correspondence is obvious. What's the direction of borrowing? The root here is “kvisha” – “sand”. Thus, "kvishna" is something that grows on sand, "песчанка". Wild cherry does grow on sandy soils. So, the initial construction is Georgian.
