In ancient Greek, the particle "ara" meant "isn't it?". A clear negative connotation. It is very important that the Greeks, while not having the word "ara" as a direct "no", still used it to express negation. They did not know that "ara" is a negation (in Georgian, "ara" is translated as "no"), but they felt that it has a negative meaning.
