ALEPPO

This great Syrian city used to be called "Halybon". There are three morphemes worthy of attention here. First, the obvious Phoenician article "Ha-" at the beginning of the word. Second, the root "lyb", which in fact is a distorted "lub". Third, the suffix "-ona", used by the Laz to construct toponyms. Compare to "Lazona" - "Land of the Laz" or "Turkona" - "Turkey". If we have a people named "Lube" next to the Laz, then there should be a Laz toponym "-ona", denoting the name of the country of the Lube. Aleppo is exactly this toponym - The Lubona (Cha Lubona).
