In Megrelian, the word "maha" means "ბოსტანა" (mole cricket). Thus, "Omaha" can be interpreted as "the land of mole crickets."
The Prairie Mole Cricket (Gryllotalpa major)—the largest mole cricket in North America—thrives in the tallgrass prairies of Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma, right next to Nebraska and Omaha.
Note that there is another Omaha - in New Zealand. The link to North America is inexplicable, and there is a local mole cricket there too.
