Murtaz Jalagonia proposed that the word "mundir" (uniform) derives from the Megrelian "mundi"—meaning "buttocks." Jokes aside, it does seem that uniforms consistently cover the backside in historical depictions.

How else might one describe outerwear that extends below the waist? "Mundiri"—literally "covering the rear." Morphologically, the word functions as a participle.
