-SKIY SUFFIX

In Otari Kajaia's dictionary, the word "სკიი" [skii] as a truncated "სკილი/სქილი" [skili] means the same as "შვილი" [shvili] and "ძე" [dze], that is, "son", "child". In other words, surnames ending in "-skiy" are completely identical to surnames ending in "-shvili" and "-dze" (or the English "-son"). The original meaning of family kinship, clearly evident, transformed over time into a more general possessiveness or any association with an object.
