LUSITANI

The name of the main tribe of ancient Portugal is interpreted, as it was by other Iberian tribes, as the Kartvelian toponym "Luseti", which in turn comes from a root "lusi". In the Kartvelian languages, the root "lusi" does not seem to exist. But this root is in the Greek language, and in a very good meaning. The ancient Greek word "λύσος" [lusos], among other things, means "liberation", "freedom". And Strabo describes the Lusitani tribe as extremely freedom-loving. It is possible, of course, that the Greek "lusos", like many other Greek words, originates from a Kartvelian root, which may not have survived to this day.
