KUBAN

As surprising as this version may seem, it seems that Cuba and Kuban are indeed cognate words. The word "kuba" in Old Kartvelian means "earth". Hence, "kubani" is an adjective formed from this root in the meaning of "earthy". The final soft sign in the word "Kuban" is precisely a former vowel.

The meaning of calling the country of Kuban "earthy" is absolute, since black soil is the main treasure of Kuban. The Kuban people say the following: "Black soil occupies a large part of our region and is our main treasure".
