INDIGETI

The Catalan tribe "Indigeti" on Ptolemy's map most likely has to do with indigo dye, obtained from the plant Indigofera tinctoria. Strabo reports that plant for the production of dye is grown in Spain. If so, then the name of this tribe serves as evidence that Indigofera tinctoria was brought to Europe from India no later than the second century AD. An alternative version is the etymology of the Latin word "indigenus", meaning "native, autochthonous", which can also characterize the Indigeti tribe. In any case, the "-eti"-ending is purely Georgian.
